Question.
At first I want to thank you for this helpful web site. I'm from a middleclass
family and I have completed one years diploma from Aptech. I'm a Graduate
also. Now I’m doing MCSE and I want to know about it's benefits? Can I get
any good jobs here? If I can then how much salary I can get? If you let
me know about it I’ll be very happy
Anu.
Answer.
Dear Anu, It is good that you have already got one year degree from a training
institute and currently doing MCSE. Though Certification can be a very important
thing for getting a good job, the most important thing however is your experience
and exposure in the real work area. Employers in our country are sometimes
very skeptical of degrees obtained from different IT training institutes
in the country (or also from India). What they actually want to see is how
good the candidate is about the work area.
Though one year back MCPs were of very high demand, recently employers are
also a bit skeptical. However complete MCSE has still got good demand in
the IT job market, particularly in the IT Training fields and ISPs. I would
suggest you to do your complete MCSE as soon as possible. Don't take too
much time on this. Also try to get some hands on experience. Join in any
part time job (don't worry for salary at this stage). If in one year you
come up with a MCSE degree and some good experience then I am sure that
you can get a very good job.
Best of Luck.

Question..
Sometimes employer ask for Graduate/Post Graduate in Computer science degree
for a post. Guy like me with 2 years Graduation in science, one year computer
diploma from Aptech and more than one year working experience in IT can
easily do this job for this post. What to do in this situation? should I
go for it?
Anonymous
Answer...
Dear Anonymous,
When an employer wants a graduation or post graduation degree, it means
that the employer really wants that the person he is employing must have
very good foundation in this IT discipline. In or country it is not very
uncommon to get people who have got some IT degree from any training institutes
(often very reputed though) but ultimately turn out to be very poor in basic
things in programming. Employers are often weary of this thing. So to be
on the safe side they prefer graduates or post graduates.
But to me, it is in no way true that , a person who does not have a graduation
in CS should not be good in the fundamentals. One can be a very good programmer
or specialist in any IT field without having a graduation. The best thing
that can make up for not having the graduation is the experience and some
good achievements in this field. If you are confident on your quality as
a programmer then I think you can approach the employers and show your confidence
about any particular job. Present or refer your previous works to them.
If they feel that you actually know the job then there is no reason why
they should not hire you. Keep in mind that there is a serious lack of good
quality IT people in the country. So if you really know the things then
I don’t think that you should face mush difficulty in finding a suitable
job for you.
Best Luck.

Question..
My boss
does not like very much smart junior colleague as he believes he is the
only smartest man in the organization and no one can be like him. Please
advise me how to overcome this problem as I have always in born passion
to be a role player in the organization and I want to take high leverage
job than at present job .I strongly believe in myself that I have the right
capability to take the leadership and I possess convincing and pleasant
to personality to all.

Answer.
Dear
Anonymous ,
My suggestion to you is, please be patient with your boss and better you
give your boss the feelings you're not as smart as him. After all this
is the smartness. And don't be too disappointed when they fail to
get out the way fast enough for your ambitions. Regarding passion to be
role player, please note that there can be one leader but leadership quality
can be possessed by many. So don't die for it rather be good with
yourself and to your profession. Remember you need quality as well
as luck to be in a role player. Last but not least, there will always
be people more successful than you, many of whom are less talented
or worthy. That's the nature of existence. So why worry about it?
cheer up instead!

Question.
Boss is Junior to me (with same degree, less experience, same institution)
I would like to switch to a new job. I am a civil Engr. Working as a Manager
of construction part. Have computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project,
MS Outlook, MS Power point, Fox-pro, Pascal, Fortran & Micro Feap)
Five year experience
Anonymous
Answer.
Dear Anonymous,
You have got good academic qualifications with experiences. You should
be able to get a new job. However, before you try to change your job,
you should try to consolidate your position in your existing company.
When you will feel comfortable at your existing position, probability
is higher that you will be able to negotiate a good deal with a new employer
Please do not bother whether your boss is senior or junior to you in terms
of age or qualifications. It may not be possible for you to always get
a boss senior to you; even if you change the job. Rather, you should concentrate
on professionalism. In the rapidly changing corporate world many young
people are taking over and they are managing people many of whom are reportedly
senior to them. One day probably you will also be leading a team of people
senior to you. So, please do not feel upset. Behave professionally with
your boss and if you get good opportunity then switch. But do not hurry.
Good Luck.

Question.
I am a fresh graduate from Dhaka university. I don’t have any experience
in jobs. But everyone asks for 5 -6 years experience. I am confident that
I can do any job that comes in my way. What should I do in such case?
Anonymous
Answer.
Dear Anonymous ,
I do not think every one asks for 5/6 years of experiences for entry-level
positions. However, a majority of the Employers in Bangladesh have the
tendency to ask for a two to three years of experiences for the entry-level
positions. But it does not mean that they are always getting personnel
with the said experiences. So, if you see an advertisement for an entry-level
position that matches your academic qualifications and if you also feel
that you are competent for the position, then straight away apply for
it. Do not look into the experience column. If you apply, it is very likely
that you will get response from some of them. Then it will be your duty
to prove your worthiness during the interview process. Please make sure
that you are good in spoken English and also have good writing ability.
Good luck.
