Curriculum MS in CSE

Program Mission
The Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering (MS in CSE) program offered by the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department at East West University is organized into five broad areas: (1) theoretical computer science, (2) software systems, (3) intelligent systems, (4) hardware systems and CAD, and (5) VLSI systems and CAD. A student must earn at least 33 credits for obtaining MS in CSE degree. The student must satisfy course requirements in "kernel" areas of theoretical computer science, software systems, intelligent systems, and hardware systems and CAD. The purpose of the kernel is to give the student broad training in the major areas of computer science and engineering. In addition, the student must satisfy course requirements in any of the "concentration" areas of software systems, intelligent systems, hardware systems and CAD, and VLSI systems and CAD. The purpose of the concentration is to allow the students to build expertise in a specific area of computer science and engineering. The student must also complete a master's thesis in his/her concentration area under the guidance of any faculty members of the department. Besides the kernel and concentration course requirements, all students must take a compulsory course on management of information technology, which will provide them a broad spectrum of knowledge of tools, approaches and techniques used to manage, evaluate and improve the Information Technology resources.

The MS in CSE program is constantly updated and monitored by a high-powered, independent academic council.

Length of Program
The minimum length of the MS in CSE program is 3 semester. Students may take up to 6 semester by enrolling lesser credits per semester.

Credit Transfer
A maximum of 12 credit equivalent course works completed in a recognized institution can be taken as transferred credit.

Residency Requirement
Students must complete at least 12 credits of theory course and 9 credits thesis at East West University to obtain the MS in CSE.

Credit Load
The minimum and maximum credit load per semester is 6 credits and 12 credits, respectively.

Admission Eligibility
Candidates must have a 4-year Bachelors degree in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) or Electrical and Electronic Engineering (with Electronics or Computer Engineering major) or any equivalent discipline with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 point scale or equivalent standing from any recognized institution.

Degree Requirement:
A candidate for the degree of MS in CSE must complete at least 33 credits with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 point scale.

Merit Scholarships/Financial Aid:

EWU has generous merit scholarships/financial aid programs. Taka three crore twenty five lakhs awarded was 1227 students in 2006. Full-year tuition waiver merit scholarships are awarded to:

(i) Top 10% students of each batch (minimum CGPA 3.97) who have completed at least 19 credits during the immediate past year.

(ii) Financial Aid is awarded to those with need and scoring a CGPA of 3.00 in 19 credits in three consecutive semesters.

The scholarships are extendable, subject to fulfillment of requirement in (i) above.

When two siblings (brother/sister with the same parents) study simultaneously at East West University, the second sibling is entitled to a half-tuition waiver. However, both must be admitted full-time into regular programs. The benefit commences on the date of admission of the second sibling and ceases on the discontinuation of the study of any one of them, after his/her graduation or for any other reason. This benefit may extend up to the third sibling under the above-mentioned conditions. The facility will be discontinued if any student violates the code of conduct and/or if his/her CGPA falls below 3.00.

Admission Form
Admission form along with a sample question set and prospectus is available for Tk. 500/-. Application forms must be filled in properly and signed by applicants and their parents/guardians. Completed admission forms must include attested copies of Marks/Grade Sheets, Certificates/Testimonials of SSC & HSC or "O" & "A" levels, B.Sc. degree and three copies of passport-size photographs.
