Should I take a year off after graduation?

I have recently graduated with BBA, majoring in HRM, and currently thinking of taking some time off, like a vacation for about a year or 8-9 months, before I apply for a job. Will it be harmful in interviews and getting jobs that I am taking this break? If yes, what is the best option for me?

Thank you for your valuable question. First of all, Congratulations on your graduation.

Every person has a unique career plan. You can take a short break if you want to do further studies like an MBA. During this break, you can assess your options and identify the areas you would like to focus on. It will assist you in discovering your interests and strengths, which will help you develop a better career in the future. As you already know, an MBA will help you in your field, and in some companies, it is a mandatory criterion for promotions and increments.

If you have no plans for further academic achievement in the current job market, begin your job search immediately. You can find many companies looking for fresh graduates to join their teams. There are also many internship and mentorship programs available that can help you gain knowledge and experience in your chosen field. It will enrich your CV and give you a competitive edge in the job market. Fresh graduate CVs are much more appealing to employers than one-year gap candidates. Employers may ask you why you didn't join or look for a job immediately after graduation, and your answer might not impress them. Moreover, there are some opportunities that you can pursue only as a fresh graduate. You may miss those opportunities also.

Sometimes it needs to be clarified what you want to do with your degree. In such a case, you should consider how to reshape your career. If you are confident in your field, you should join an internship program or a company in a junior position. It will help you grow and develop your career rapidly in the future.

Best of luck.
